Douglasville Egg Drop 08-
First let me start by saying God is AWESOME, and River Ridge you ROCK!!!
Now I digress, as a life long resident of Douglas County, after witnessing your behavior this past weekend I am ashamed to call many of you my neighbors. Your actions were that of people starving and we just dropped the first food you have seen in 6 months. Freaking grown people pushing each other and pushing other peoples kids. And last I checked Easter egg hunts were for kids, not a 46 year old man, or a psycho mom scooping up eggs for her heathen kids into a Coach purse. Some kids left with 6 dozen eggs, that you helped them collect and some with none. That speaks volumes for your parenting skills.
Questions and Comments we have received:
Why didn’t we advertise an age limit??
~ Well we received over 500 calls and emails from people asking about the Egg Drop, they asked, why didn’t you?? Also this info was posted on all state, city, and radio websites as well as Chapel Hills News and Views. I’m sorry if your 15 year old high school sophomore didn’t get to hunt Easter eggs, and it was probably best for their reputations around campus, that we did not allow them to frolic through the tulips, basket in hand.
We should have let one age group go at a time.
~ Well that was the plan; however 2 year olds follow directions better than some grown folks.
You should have called the sheriffs’ department for traffic control.
~ We did, they didn’t show.
You should have had more raffle tickets.
~ Your right, we should have. We had over 1200, we thought there was more than plenty.
Why were there so many lost kids??
~ That’s our fault how?? You would think in a crowd of over 5000, you would keep an eye on your kids. I can’t tell you how many people came up to me and said yeah, I sent my kids on down, I will register for them. This sort of thing happens at all events, big, small, and sometimes even in the Wal-Mart, but again please explain how that’s our fault??!!??!! FYI- all kids and parents were happily reunited.
So to recap: This was the most enormous, thrilling, chaotic, and inspiring monstrosity I have ever been apart of. I’m sorry; I really am that some kids never had a shot at an egg. But this could have been a good life lesson for your kids, its all how you look at it. We have never been promised that life is fair, it’s just not. And Easter is NOT about hunting Easter eggs. It was fun watching them pour out of a helicopter, but Jesus is the reason for Celebration not candy filled eggs. River Ridge Church put this event on to reach into the community we are a part of and love on people, like Jesus did. If one life has been changed, the madness was completely worth it.
My personal guarantee: You ain’t seen the last of River Ridge Church. There will be bigger and better events to come. And we are hosting the party for one.
